Perfect Conference Record Boosts Kentucky Volleyball to No. 2 overall NCAA Seed
Wildcats Remain Dominant in Preparation for NCAA Tournament
Summary
- Kentucky volleyball earned the No. 2 overall seed after an undefeated conference season and winning the SEC conference championship.
- The Wildcats will play Wofford on Thursday, Dec. 4 in Historic Memorial Coliseum in Lexington.
Kentucky volleyball was bound to be one of the No. 1 seeds competing within the NCAA Tournament, but that was made official Sunday evening as the Wildcats were slated as the No. 2 overall seed and a host for the first two rounds of the tournament.
The Wildcats have been on a tear this season, rolling through teams and asserting dominance through a 25-2 regular season record and perfect Southeastern Conference record of 15-0, spending several weeks as No. 2 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
During the regular season, Kentucky completed several statement wins, including two full sweeps against Texas and a five-set game against No. 1 Nebraska — one of the most intense battles that the Huskers faced this season.
The two losses that the Wildcats suffered occurred during pre-conference play, including the 3-2 battle against Nebraska and an early-season 3-0 sweep from Pitt.
To close out conference play, Kentucky swept through the SEC Tournament with a 3-0 win against Auburn and 3-1 victory against Tennessee until its final match against Texas to compete for the championship. The Longhorns led 2-0 going into the third match, but the Wildcats rallied and came back from the deficit to complete a 3-2 game. Senior outside hitter Eva Hudson claimed credit with the win, with 25 kills in one of her best games of the season.
With the comeback, Kentucky was crowned as the 2025 SEC Champion — and guaranteed its place as a No. 1 seed within the NCAA Tournament.
Joining Nebraska, Texas, and Pittsburgh, Kentucky’s preeminence as a national contender pushed the Wildcats to their 21st-straight ticket to the NCAA Tournament. If they are still alive, the Wildcats will be able to host games in Lexington all the way up to the Final Four.
The first games of the Lexington Regional will occur Thursday, Dec. 4 in Historic Memorial Coliseum.
UCLA will play Georgia Tech at 4:30 p.m. ET. Following that match, Kentucky will face Wofford, capping off the first two matches of the NCAA Tournament in the Lexington Sub-Regional. The two winners of those two games will play that Friday at 7 p.m. ET in a regional match, with the winner moving on to the NCAA Regionals in a third round.
