Summary

  • Allyson Ferguson, a versatile and hardworking forward for NWFSC, chose Arkansas State over other interested programs due to fit and proximity to her Houston home.
  • Known for her unselfish play and positive energy, Ferguson contributed key athleticism and “dirty work” off the bench during her JuCo championship season.

"The upside is still coming for Ally."

Arkansas State was desperate to bring in a forward from the NJCAA champions. So much so that they inquired about multiple players on the roster for the same spot, including McBride. However, Alyson Ferguson committed to Arkansas State as the best overall fit.

Ferguson was the Raiders' Swiss Army knife last season, starting a handful of games but largely supplementing the starters with athleticism and dirty work. Capable of finishing and handling in the short roll, Ferguson’s dynamism and fledglling skills ooze untapped potential.

“Wherever Ally goes, she's gonna be good, just because she’s always got good energy. Always positive in practice,” said NWFSC teammate Nevaeh Scott. "She goes hard. She works hard."

The word repeated about Ferguson over and over is “unselfish”. Not being a starter in your final JuCo year adds pressure and might limit the move that a player wants. Ferguson remained an excited, engaged teammate the entire time and stayed ready.

There are older players in her way at Arkansas State, but that also means she has time to develop behind the scenes and over the summer without the expectation to produce on Day 1. Or, she can come into camp and take the job off of someone, realizing her high ceiling before game one even starts.

“She’s got athleticism and personality,” said Coach Bart Walker. “She did a little bit of everything for us this season, and I think the upside is still coming for Ally.”

From Houston, a move to Arkansas State also allows Ferguson to be close to her family again, and have easier access to her home.
