Every softball fan has counted down the days to watching their favorite team play in the Women’s College World Series, and for eight teams, the fans are still living this dream.
The eight teams that made it to the WCWS have had long journeys to get here. Here’s what you need to know once bracket play starts in Oklahoma City.
Alabama Crimson Tide
The national No. 1 seed made it to OKC after not making it in 2025, and the Alabama Crimson Tide has done everything necessary to complete a clean sweep of the postseason entering the WCWS.
For a No. 1 overall seed, the Tide had a fairly tough road to playing at Devon Park in 2026. The Tuscaloosa Regional was one of the more tough regionals in the 2026 NCAA Tournament.

The Tide hosted Southeastern Louisiana, Belmont and USC Upstate. This regional had three of the scrappier mid-major schools in the bracket, and the competition played this way for everyone except the Tide. The tournament played so backwards that the No. 4 seed managed to win into championship Sunday before getting sent home by Alabama.
On the other hand, the Crimson Tide swept its way through their home regional without allowing a run to be scored, and would face their cross-conference rival in LSU in Super Regionals.
The Tide once again locked down defensively and from the circle because the Tigers only scored one run in the Tuscaloosa Regional, which Alabama swept to make it to the WCWS for the 16 time in school history.
Texas Longhorns
The defending national champions, the Texas Longhorns find themselves across the Red River in OKC for the third consecutive season. The Austin Regional was a clean sweep for the Longhorns as they defeated each team they faced in a combined score of 25-9. Texas played each of the three other teams in the tournament.

Into their home super regional, the Longhorns came from behind to punch their ticket versus Arizona State.
Texas fell in Game 1 of the Austin Super Regional, but won the next two games to officially defend its national title from 2025. If the Longhorns win, they will continue the tradition of the defenders winning multiple championships in a row.
Nebraska Cornhuskers
The Nebraska Cornhuskers are the sneakiest team entering the WCWS. The Cornhuskers have built a sneaky-good team with Jordy Frahm at the helm of the defense and offense. The two-way player has led her home-university back to OKC for the first time since 2013.

The Cornhuskers swept their way through both the regional and super regional round, both of which they hosted. This team has been killer all season, and the support around Frahm in 2026 has made them an unlikely candidate that has the potential to bring it all back home.
Arkansas Razorbacks
Another sneaky-stellar team most people will overlook is the Arkansas Razorbacks. The Razorbacks hosted the Fayetteville Regional, and swept their way through, but had the most riding on the Super Regional appearance.
While Arkansas has hosted three previous super regionals, the 2026 Fayetteville Super Regional was the first time the Razorbacks punched their ticket to the WCWS.

Arkansas head coach Courtney Deifel has built the Razorback softball program from the ground up during her tenure, and for the first time in school history, a national championship is looming on the horizon.
Tennessee Lady Vols
The Tennessee Lady Volunteers have been a bridesmaid for several years now. The Vols have made it to the WCWS 10 times, and the 2026 postseason is the second straight season they made it to OKC.

Tennessee swept through the postseason entering the WCWS, hosting a regional and a super regional in Knoxville.
The leader of Volunteers’ is senior pitcher Karlyn Pickens. Pickens has been a true thorn for every opposing team, and she’s made it her goal to go out with a national championship.
While this is the third time in four years that the Volunteers have made it to OKC, they hope to make it their third appearance in the championship finals, and even the first national title in school history.
UCLA Bruins
The UCLA Bruins are one of the classic softball dynasties, and the resurgence in 2026 has showcased everything fans wanted to see.
UCLA swept their way through the Los Angeles Regional and Super Regional, defeating both South Carolina and UCF twice respectively.

Unlike Bruins teams of the past, the 2026 team is riddled with dominant offense, sweeping their postseason opponents 55-20. This team is shaking things up from the traditional west-coast style softball the Bruins have brought to OKC.
This time it will try to take home championship No. 14, with the most recent being in 2019 to claim the record for most titles.
This team is out to redeem the six-season drought.
Texas Tech Red Raiders
Texas Tech is the most controversial team to make the 2026 WCWS. After becoming the 2025 runner up, head coach Jerry Glasco made it his goal to win the entire tournament in his second year in Lubbock.
In the offseason, he secured four major transfers in Mia Williams, Jasmyn Burns, Kaitlyn Terry and Jackie Liz. This secured talent theoretically guarantees a national championship with its addition to the 2025 roster.

The Red Raiders went undefeated in the Lubbock Regional and Super Regional, but not without drama to match the dramatic season to match.
Texas Tech scored eight runs in the seventh inning of the 1-0 game of the regional to become the first team to come back from an eight or more deficit and win the game.
The drama followed suit into the super regional round, as the Red Raiders faced the Florida Gators in Gainesville, which is Williams’ former team.
She was hit five times in the series, and the fans were as rowdy as they come. The chatter was loud, and the Gators even refused to shake hands after the game.
The 2026 WCWS will be Glasco and team’s revenge at overcoming the drama-filled season, and bringing home the first national championship.
Mississippi State Bulldogs
The Mississippi State Bulldogs are the true underdogs of the 2026 WCWS.
Mississippi State swept their way through the Eugene Regional, upsetting Oregon along the way. To make the challenge even more difficult, the Bulldogs were sent to Norman, Oklahoma to take on the Oklahoma Sooners, and would come out victorious in the three-game series.
The Bulldogs punched their first ever ticket to OKC with a dramatic upset over eight-time national champion Oklahoma.
The Bulldogs claimed to be underdogs, but they’re still dogs entering the 2026 WCWS.
It all begins to unravel on Thursday, May 28 as Texas Tech and Mississippi State face off at noon eastern time.
The national championship series will begin Wednesday, June 3 at 8 p.m. eastern.
