Lauren Betts Dominates Opening Weekend of NCAA tournament
The 6'7" Star has UCLA rolling into the Sweet 16
Bruins superstar Lauren Betts has UCLA through the opening weekend of March Madness, and it seems like teams don’t have any answer for her. Through two tournament games, the senior forward has poured in 57 points and paired them with 19 rebounds.
On the other side of the ball, Cal Baptist and Oklahoma St. combined for less than 50 points in the paint. Not only is Betts dominating the offensive end, but her size and communication remains a sufficient deterrent on defense.
Betts transferred from Stanford after her freshman season, building chemistry with her teammates at UCLA over 3 years. Simultaneously, Coach Cori Close has added an elite talent to the group every offseason, keeping the Bruins consistently dangerous.
“I was just working really hard today on getting seals, and my teammates did a really good job of finding me today,” said Betts after facing Oklahoma St. “Some of those passes were absolutely insane. The trust that they have to throw that up there and just know that I'm going to catch it, I think that's just all the chemistry that we've been working on all season.”

In addition to Betts, UCLA will graduate five other seniors, all of which have been hyper effective this season. The Bruins will lose 85% of their minutes next season to graduation Coach Close and her staff may feel pressure to strike now, while the iron is hot.
For now, Close and Betts will have to contend with conference opponents Minnesota for a place in the Elite Eight. A January matchup between the two saw a dominant UCLA win and another Double-Double for Betts.
“I think they're running really high right now,” said Coach Close. “They're very confident. I fully expect it to be a great battle.”
